Atlanta Children’s Health & Low-Cost Healthcare: Where to Start

Official resource information reviewed October 15, 2026.
Finding care for a child should not require sorting through an overwhelming directory. These four starting points help Atlanta-area families explore health coverage, affordable pediatric appointments, and preventive checkups.
Sacred Ashram Ministries shares this guide as a spiritual education ministry and community resource navigator. The agencies and clinics below administer their own programs, determine eligibility, and provide care.
Start here: coverage, appointments, or emergency help?
Medical emergency: Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Do not wait for a benefits application or routine clinic opening. Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta explains urgent versus emergency care.
Need health insurance for your child? Start with Georgia Medical Assistance through Medicaid/PeachCare below. Applying for coverage does not schedule a medical visit.
Need a routine appointment while uninsured? Ask Mercy Care or Good Samaritan about pediatric intake and sliding-fee eligibility. A sliding fee is not automatically free care.
Already have Medicaid or PeachCare? Ask Fulton County Board of Health about Health Checks and your child’s eligibility.
1. Georgia Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids: explore coverage
Who it helps and area served: Eligible Georgia residents, including Atlanta-area children and teenagers. Medicaid eligibility depends on the applicable coverage group and household circumstances. PeachCare serves qualifying uninsured children under 19 who are not eligible for Medicaid; income, residency, and citizenship or qualifying immigration requirements apply.
What it may offer: Health coverage. PeachCare benefits include preventive, primary, dental, vision, and other covered services. Premiums or copayments may apply; the state determines eligibility.
How to begin: Follow the official enrollment guide to Georgia Gateway, choose Medical Assistance, and complete the application. Call 877-427-3224 for PeachCare or 877-423-4746 for Medical Assistance application guidance.
Timing: This is not immediate care. The state advises that processing commonly takes about 45 days and can take longer if more information is needed. Approval is not guaranteed.
2. Mercy Care: pediatric care and income-based discounts
Who it helps and area served: Children and adolescents ages 0–18 seeking care in the Atlanta area. Mercy Care welcomes patients regardless of insurance or income; ask registration about your household’s needs and discount eligibility.
What it may offer: Pediatric primary care and vaccinations, with related dental and vision services. Uninsured patients may qualify for an income-based sliding-fee scale; confirm charges for the exact service.
How to begin: Call 678-843-8600 and request a pediatric appointment at Chamblee, 5134 Peachtree Road, Chamblee, GA 30341. Confirm the site and service before traveling. Walk-ins are subject to provider availability and may involve longer waits.
What to prepare: For discounted fees, review the new-patient checklist for identification where applicable, current address, and household-income documentation. Bring an insurance card if you have one. Ask staff which documents apply to your family.
3. Good Samaritan Health Center: ask about pediatric intake
Who it helps and area served: Atlanta-area families seeking affordable care, with priority ZIP codes 30318 and 30314. Families outside those ZIP codes should confirm their intake route directly rather than assuming priority access.
What it may offer: Pediatric medical care with discounts based on family size and income. Good Samaritan states that it is not a free clinic; households above its discount threshold pay full charges.
How to begin: Call 404-523-6571, explain that you are seeking pediatric care, and give your ZIP code. The new-patient page specifically invites pediatric inquiries. The main campus is 1015 Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30318; confirm the appointment location.
Limits and documents: Bring the requested income, address, identification, and insurance records where applicable. Intake can be affected by provider coverage. The page’s listed general 2026 registration dates are already past, so this guide does not present them as current openings. Ask about the next available pediatric appointment and expected fee.
4. Fulton County Board of Health: preventive Health Checks
Who it helps and area served: Families seeking preventive children’s health services through Fulton County clinics. The program describes services for Medicaid-eligible infants, children, and adolescents under 21; PeachCare members may also qualify within their coverage rules.
What it may offer: Physical examinations, developmental review, vision and hearing screening, immunizations, and dental referrals. The official page states that eligible Medicaid and PeachCare members receive Health Checks at no charge; confirm membership and appointment eligibility with the clinic.
How to begin: Call a listed clinic to ask about scheduling, age limits, documents, and current availability:
Adamsville: 770-520-7323
College Park: 770-520-7201
Neighborhood Union: 770-520-7351
North Fulton: 770-520-7241
Important distinction: This is not blanket free healthcare for every uninsured child. If your child is uninsured, ask the clinic about other services and fees, and explore the coverage application above. Confirm the current address before traveling.
Make the first call easier
Ask two separate questions: “Can you see my child?” and “What will this visit cost?” Coverage eligibility, clinic intake, and fee discounts are separate decisions.
Check the document list before the visit. Mercy Care and Good Samaritan publish different requirements. Ask how to document your circumstances if a listed item is unavailable.
Keep application and appointment details together. The state’s enrollment guide recommends retaining the eligibility notice and case information.
Use medical guidance for symptoms. This guide helps locate services; it cannot determine how urgently a child needs care.
